| Story behind the picture: | This photo was taken along the Bike-and-Hike Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Fringed gentians are a relatively rare wildflower that blooms in September and October, rather than the spring like most wildflowers. The flowers close up at night (generally opening only on sunny days), revealing the fringed petal edges for which it is named. After a heavy dew, the dew drops cling to the petals.
I took the photo with a 400mm lens to blur the background and draw attention to the details of the flower, and liked the curved stem of this particular plant.
