American Bittern

April will bring about 35 species of birds to NE Ohio. Some will stay for the summer and some will just be passing through.
American Bittern is a wading bird in the marsh. More easily seen now before the cattails grow tall. Its deep, gulping song reminds you more of a plumbing problem than a way to attract a mate! Listen for it right before or after dark.
