Learn by Drawing
Our newest program is offered to boys and girls in 6th to 12th grade. The 3 hour program starts with a wildlife rehabilitation presentation (such as Raptor Encounter by Penitentiary Glen). See real birds and learn how sick and injured wildlife are rehabilitated and released back into the wild.
The program continues with the history of conservation as represented by the art of John James Audubon. Participants will study bird forms by drawing all or part of a bird, similar to Audubon’s process of learning through art.
All About Birds Badge
Detailed information about binoculars follows. Then take a hike in the Novak Sanctuary led by an expert birder and learn to identify what you see and hear. This is followed by tutorials in “citizen science” and use of eBird.
Cost is $5 per person. Refreshments served. Participants who complete the program requirements receive the All About Birds hummingbird patch and ODNR’s “Common Birds” field guide.
