SUMMARY:Tree Care & Repair Event
DESCRIPTION:Thousands of trees are planted each year but many are planted incorrectly\, too low and with mulch piled around the base. These practices cover the root flare of the tree – the area where the trunk meets the roots.  The root flare is critical for oxygen exchange and proper root growth.\nWhen it is covered up\, roots circle around the base restricting the tree’s ability to transport water. The bark begins to rot.  The tree can suffocate and die. We want the trees planted to be successful and live long\, happy lives. Join us to learn how to properly plant and take care of a tree. \nWe’ll analyze the trees at Mitchell’s to see if they need some help and if so\, we will fix them. \nPresenter: Colby Sattler\, ISA Certified Arborist\, Forest City Ecological Services \nFREE TREE SEEDLINGS (while supplies last) \nWorkshop is free but registration is required.\nContact Amy Roskilly at aroskilly@cuyahogaswcd.org – 216/524-6580\, x1005\nonline –  https://www.cuyahogaswcd.org/events/2019/10/19/tree-care-and-root-flare-repair

SUMMARY:Fall Leaf Colors Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Mid-October in Northeastern Ohio is a spectacular time to soak up the beauty of nature. John Lillich’s stories and style will keep you entertained with the natural and human history in this gem of a wildlife preserve. John hiked and worked these ridges and ravines ever since he was a child and intimately knows the moods and denizens of this woods. Join us and the Burrough’s Nature Club for a walk at peak color change (if mother nature agrees with our timing). John will also be making an indoor presentation on the Hach-Otis Preserve Friday night October 18th at 7:00 P.M.to the Burrough’s Nature Club at the Willoughby United Methodist Church in downtown Willoughby. All are welcome members or not. For the field trip on Saturday\, meet at the Hach-Otis parking lot at the end of Skyline Drive heading east off of River Road in Willoughby Hills.
