SUMMARY:Warbler Warm-up Backyard Naturalist
DESCRIPTION:Spring migration is one of the best times to be in NE Ohio for warblers. Many species pass through the area on their way north\, but some remain in Ohio to nest. Because we only see them for a short time every year we sometimes forget how to identify them. This presentation uses photographs to help group warblers by appearance\, preferred habitat\, and behaviors\, such as tail wagging\, which helps with identification. In addition\, songs and ways to remember songs will be provided. This should get us prepared for migration!

SUMMARY:Spring Bird Walks Begin Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to begin birding or share your passion for birding with others. We will be watching the fascinating phenomenon of migration as each week more and different species arrive on their way to summer nesting grounds either here or further north. This is the 86th year for this event where parks and sanctuaries all over the Cleveland and Akron area will lead walks recording all species seen and heard in order to submit the data to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. This data is shared with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology via their Ebird.org website allowing researchers all over the world to analyze the information for their projects. \nAudubon and Novak Sanctuaries simultaneously. Click here for complete list of locations. \nContinues Sundays through May 19 at 7:30am.

SUMMARY:Late Winter Bird Count Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Help us do our annual winter bird survey at this wonderful sanctuary where there is an excellent diversity of habitats. If you are new to birding or have had thoughts about beginning\, winter is an excellent time to get started because there are no obscuring leaves\, and the number of species are limited to our winter residents. Biting insects are dormant and the poison ivy has died back. It is a fun way to hold cabin fever at bay! SUMMARY:Winter Hike Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:The winter woods divulge secrets that are not noticed in the summer. Without leaves on the trees\, the forest floor and topography can be appreciated in finer detail. Snow cover will allow us to see signs of the creatures that use our trails as we do. Often a complete story can be put together from the tracks in the snow. We will gather at the Dog Park parking lot on the east side of Page Road a few hundred yards north of Mennonite Road in Aurora.

SUMMARY:South Florida Birding Trip Non-ASGC
DESCRIPTION:Instructors: Dr. Andy Jones\, Dr. David Kriska\, Michelle Leighty-Jones and Ashley Hall\n\n\nCold weather and snow got you down? Join Cleveland Museum of Natural History staff on a tropical trip down to southern Florida for a week of birding and more! Pack your suitcase and bring your binoculars as we search for Florida’s most charismatic and enigmatic birds and other wildlife in a variety of habitats. South Florida teems with diversity\, all set against a backdrop of beautiful habitats as well as a complex history of invasive species and habitat loss. Along the way\, we will see a diverse set of birds\, including species unique to the southeastern United States as well as wintering populations of warblers we only see during migration in Ohio. We have built an itinerary around seeing many species of birds in a variety of habitats\, but we will also explore the animal and plant diversity as we go\, and we will discuss their conservation status and successes along the way.  \nCost includes transportation in Florida\, accommodations\, some meals\, admission to parks and sanctuaries\, and a great opportunity to learn from Museum experts. Airfare is NOT included. Room rates are per person. MEMBER DISCOUNT will be applied in cart. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Help us celebrate the longest night of the year under the almost (one day early) full moon known as the Cold Moon. If we are lucky enough to have clear skies\, we will not even need a flashlight. A night hike this time of year reveals secrets of the forest and field because the leaves are down increasing our viewing while the crisp air allows sounds to travel farther. Hiking after dark seems to heighten the acuity of our senses. Join us to see what the night-time forest unveils. Meet at Novak Sanctuary parking lot on the east side of Townline Rd a little less than a mile north of St. Rt. 82 on the Aurora/Mantua border.
