SUMMARY:Winter Hike Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:The winter woods divulge secrets that are not noticed in the summer. Without leaves on the trees\, the forest floor and topography can be appreciated in finer detail. Snow cover will allow us to see signs of the creatures that use our trails as we do. Often a complete story can be put together from the tracks in the snow. We will gather at the Dog Park parking lot on the east side of Page Road a few hundred yards north of Mennonite Road in Aurora.

SUMMARY:South Florida Birding Trip Non-ASGC
DESCRIPTION:Instructors: Dr. Andy Jones\, Dr. David Kriska\, Michelle Leighty-Jones and Ashley Hall\n\n\nCold weather and snow got you down? Join Cleveland Museum of Natural History staff on a tropical trip down to southern Florida for a week of birding and more! Pack your suitcase and bring your binoculars as we search for Florida’s most charismatic and enigmatic birds and other wildlife in a variety of habitats. South Florida teems with diversity\, all set against a backdrop of beautiful habitats as well as a complex history of invasive species and habitat loss. We will explore some of the best-preserved and managed sites\, from Everglades National Park down to the Florida Keys. Along the way\, we will see a diverse set of birds\, including species unique to the southeastern United States as well as wintering populations of warblers we only see during migration in Ohio. We have built an itinerary around seeing many species of birds in a variety of habitats\, but we will also explore the animal and plant diversity as we go\, and we will discuss their conservation status and successes along the way.  \nCost includes transportation in Florida\, accommodations\, some meals\, admission to parks and sanctuaries\, and a great opportunity to learn from Museum experts. Airfare is NOT included. Room rates are per person. MEMBER DISCOUNT will be applied in cart. Members: Double Room $2\,250; Single Room $2\,750. \n\n\n\n\nRegister: https://1023.blackbaudhosting.com/1023/South-Florida-Birds-Natural-History-and-Conservation\n\n(This event is published as a courtesy to CMNH. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Help us celebrate the longest night of the year under the almost (one day early) full moon known as the Cold Moon. If we are lucky enough to have clear skies\, we will not even need a flashlight. A night hike this time of year reveals secrets of the forest and field because the leaves are down increasing our viewing while the crisp air allows sounds to travel farther. Hiking after dark seems to heighten the acuity of our senses. Join us to see what the night-time forest unveils. Meet at Novak Sanctuary parking lot on the east side of Townline Rd a little less than a mile north of St. Rt. 82 on the Aurora/Mantua border.

SUMMARY:Migrating Waterfowl & Winter Birds of NE Ohio Backyard Naturalist
DESCRIPTION:Once the pretty summer songbirds have departed for points south\, what do birders do? They put on another layer of clothes and go looking for waterfowl – Ducks\, Geese\, Swans\, Loons\, Grebes & Gulls. This presentation showcases these hardy visitors along with Hawks\, Owls and smaller birds like Snow Buntings\, Larkspurs and Kinglets. If you don’t like cold weather\, ask about ‘car birding’\, a favorite alternative to walking when wind chills plummet! About 1 hour in length. \nThe First Baptist Church is located at 7656 State Route 82\, Garrettsville 44231

Help us keep track of the songsters in and near our ponds desperately calling for company! Bring your camera for some fantastic shots of springtime at its best.
